Kubernetes Made Easy
K0s drastically reduces the complexity of installing and running a fully conformant Kubernetes distribution. K0s is distributed as a single binary with its own CLI, enabling clusters to be deployed manually in minutes on Linux VMs, servers, or edge devices. It’s ideal for developer self-service, and easy to automate around. The included Autopilot operator can fully automate non-disruptive cluster updates-in-place. And the open source k0sctl utility enables declarative deployment and updates to multi-node clusters.
Flexible Kubernetes
By default, k0s comes with the core components for enterprise-grade Kubernetes distribution. Pre-configured components like containerD and Kube-Router are great for getting started, but they can be easily swapped with your preferred CRI or CNI (e.g., CRI-O, Calico). Add CSI storage options. Leverage Kine to switch the default etcd key/value store for SQL. Provided configs let you easily set up gVisor for workload sandboxing, or run WASM workloads with Wasmtime. k0s declarative configuration makes platform engineering easier.
Secure Kubernetes
k0s installs from Mirantis-curated versions of upstream images, scanned and with known CVEs minimized, and new CVEs removed as rapidly as possible. k0s is tested to pass CIS security benchmarks. It uses Transport Layer Security (TLS) throughout, and features true control plane/worker separation to protect controllers from rogue workloads and reduce the control plane’s attack surface. Tunneled worker/controller connections speed setup of secure distributed and hybrid k0s clusters: perfect for edge applications.
k0s Open Source Ecosystem
k0smotron is an open source Kubernetes ClusterAPI provider and operator suite that runs on any CNCF-certified Kubernetes. It lets you leverage Cluster API to declaratively define, deploy, and lifecycle manage k0s clusters on any cloud or bare metal infrastructure. k0smotron even lets you create multiple hosted control planes (HCPs – i.e., control planes in pods) on its Kubernetes host cluster, then deploy and link k0s workers running anywhere you like, locally or remotely: on cloud VMs, bare metal servers, or tiny edge devices.
k0sctl is an open source declarative ‘bring your own nodes’ bootstrapping and management tool, designed for k0s. It consumes simple declarative configurations and lets you deploy, state-manage, manually update, and scale single- or multi-node k0s clusters on VMs or bare metal nodes, accessible via SSH.
